18 Month Service Dog Training Program

18 Month Service Dog Training Program

This 18 month program will follow and support you and your service dog in training from puppyhood to age 1.5 years old. The duration of this program allows for trainers to work with you and your dog throughout their development, ensuring that training is age appropriate and advances as your dog matures. This unique program design incorporates a high degree of owner participation to support the development of your service dog team and foster a strong relationship between you and your service dog in training.

This specialized program is broken down into three components; 10 week, 5 week, and 5 week board and trains. Each board and train will allow our trainers to focus on necessary skills at the appropriate times of your dog’s development. Between each board and train, you and your puppy will have the opportunity to work on these new skills.

The 10 week component will start with basic puppy skills such as setting up feeding schedules, crate training and routines, the introductory leash work, clicker training, luring, puppy obedience, socialization, environmental exposure, desensitization to “scary things,” ways to navigate the fear period, and temperament testing.

At the first 5 week component, puppies will learn advanced skills including e-collar, duration stays, and impulse control. The last 5 week component will apply all that the puppy has learned from the last two components with the addition of public access and task-related training.

In between each board and train, your puppy will also participate in our structured day school twice per week. Structured day school allows 1:1 training with our trainers, socialization with other dogs, and freshens up on basic skills. Weekly report cards are also provided for detailed updates on the progress of your puppy’s training and direction on what to practice at home.
